1st - 31st October 2025
During the month of October 2025, churches in Chester will be celebrating The Holy Bible.
From colourful displays to historical copies, numerous languages and to how we have our many English editions today.
The fascinating and important content of this special book is explained in drama, special talks and visual presentations, including the amazing account of how a 15 year old girl went to extraordinary lengths to obtain her own copy of the book she loved.
Concluding with the National celebration of Bible Sunday on the 26th October
A printed program is available from most of the churches in the city.
For example:-
The Chained Bible
In the sixteenth century Thomas Cromwell instructed that every Church should display a large Bible. To prevent theft they were chained to the Church pulpit.
You can see this copy in St John's Church.

The Bible in Tigrigna
Tigrigna or Tigrinya, is an Ethio-Semitic language. It is primarily spoken by the Tigrayan peoples native to Eritrea and the Ethiopian state of the Tigray region respectively.
There are about 10 million native speakers and the earliest written text dates from the 13th century.
You can see this and many other translations in Kingsway Chapel.
